Akinori Konoha (Japanese: 木葉 (このは) 秋紀 (あきのり) Konoha Akinori) was a third-year student at Fukurōdani Academy. He was a wing spiker for the Boys' Volleyball Team.

After graduating high school, Konoha became a pharmaceutical company employee in Tokyo and is an outside hitter for the Ehrgeiz Pharma Volleyball Club.[1]

Appearance[]

Konoha stands at 178.8 cm, making him the third shortest in his team. He has neat, medium-length dirty-blonde hair, with narrow eyes and an average build. His eyes are often depicted as nearly the same color as his hair in some art works.

Post-timeskip, his hair has been cut to a shorter length.

Personality[]

Like the rest of the team, he knows when to cheer up Bokuto when he's in a bad mood but appears to be one of the most annoyed by it when it happens. He appears to be competitive and into the sport. Konoha is also shown to have a teasing nature during matches as he is seen taunting Kenma and Lev and saying that they don't have a monopoly on working together during the Fukurōdani vs. Nekoma match. Komi, his teammate, states that 'without Konoha, the team cannot function properly.'[2]

Plot[]

Tokyo Expedition Arc[]

Konoha is introduced as a player of Fukurodani during the practice matches. He is shown with Komi and Sarukui trying to cheer Bokuto up after the skimmed win over Karasuno. During the barbeque, he and Komi attempted to approach Kiyoko. Before they could, they were scared off by Nishinoya, Tanaka, and Yamamoto acting as her protection squad.

Spring High Preliminary Arc[]

During the Nekoma match, Konoha was shown to be a stable player capable of covering different positions. He is seen receiving Kuroo's jump serve and being annoyed by how he has gotten the serve game worthy. Shortly after, Konoha makes a near-impossible save after Washio is able to get a one-touch on Lev's spike.

Konoha promptly taunts Lev and Kenma for not being able to work together as real teammates before he is called by his nickname "Jack of all Trades / Master of None" by one of the Fukurōdani students who is watching the match and he is shown to heavily dislike the nickname, but specifically the second part. When Akaashi was targeted by Nekoma to make first touches, Konoha calls for Sarukui to give him the set. To the annoyance of Nekoma, Konoha does a rebound against the block. Konoha would then make a set to Sarukui after an imitation of Bokuto's signature "Hey, hey, hey!", once Akaashi was again forced to make the first receive.

According to Komi's unwanted narration, Konoha is noted to be of average play and power but is a valuable player to the Fukurōdani team who may not be able to function properly without him. When Bokuto becomes depressed when he is unable to hit any cross shots, Konoha is shown to be greatly annoyed by this but agrees to follow Akaashi's plan of helping the ace get back on track. He is able to make the receive close to the net which allowed Akaashi to trick Lev in order to get him out of the way to allow Bokuto to score. He later celebrates with his team when they win the game.

Nationals Arc[]

Fukurodani vs Eiwa[]

Group s4-e12-3

Late in the first set, Konoha is one of the players to first notice players Bokuto has fallen into one of his slumps. At hearing that Bokuto is upset that they are not playing in the main arena with a larger crowd watching, Konoha and Sarukui become frustrated that they did not foresee this coming. Konoha then regrets having the team watch Nekoma's game in a bigger court. Despite this, he brushes off Bokuto's concern but feels certain that the ace will overcome the problem since these are quite recurring incidents for Fukurōdani. A short amount of time later, Konoha is seen kicking Bokuto out of annoyance.

When Akaashi is forced to make the first touch, Konoha is called upon to make the set to Sarukui. After Fukurōdani wins the game, Konoha tells Akaashi that he can at times ignore Bokuto when he gets into one of his moods but does admit that he's glad the setter is able to find ways to bring Bokuto back to normal. When Sarukui suggests Akaashi tells Bokuto about finding him cool, Konoha immediately rejects the offer as he's afraid Bokuto's ego would inflate.

Fukurōdani Academy vs Morikawa High[]

Fukurōdani would go on to win the game when Bokuto scores the last point. When the ace notices that Karasuno was able to beat Inarizaki, Konoha shows surprise in Bokuto not noticing given how loud the audience on the B court was. When Fukurōdani's third-years, excluding Bokuto, get back to the hotel, they are shown interacting with one another.

Fukurōdani Academy vs. Matsuyama Nishi Biz High[]

Konoha makes a brief appearance during the game and is mostly seen interacting with the Nekoma and Karasuno players after the match.

Fukurōdani vs Mujinazaka High[]

Just before the match, Konoha questions Bokuto's thinking when the captain declares that he will become the top ace. Shortly after, Konoha laughs as Bokuto gets excited to begin playing. Immediately in the first rally, Usuri starts off with a jump floater. Despite this attempt, Konoha manages an overhand receive. At several points during the match, Konoha is seen making sets to Bokuto and to other players.

When Akaashi is removed from the game to calm his nerves, Bokuto assures everyone that Akaashi will be fine. Konoha silently admits that Bokuto is able to be persuasive but it is a rare occurrence.[3] After Sarukui is blocked but the ball is still going, Bokuto calls for Konoha to send him the set but Konoha decides against this and sends the set to Sarukui. After this victory, Konoha and Sarukui high five in joy.

In the second set, Konoha makes a bad pass. Knowing that he doesn't have the ability to set it, Akaashi instead chooses to go for a rebound. After making this, he sends a cold stare as Konoha's way to tell him that he expects easy-to-set passes for the following rallies. After Bokuto smashes the ball and leaves it untouched, he and Konoha happily bump into each other.

Final Arc[]

After high school, Konoha became an employee for a pharmaceutical company in Tokyo and is an outside hitter for the Ehrgeiz Pharma Volleyball Club.[1] He is with Sarukui and Komi at a bar watching the live program of Bokuto play with the MSBY Black Jackals. During a flashback, it is shown that Fukurōdani had made it all the way to the finals of the 2013 Spring Tournament but lost in the final set. Konoha blamed himself for the loss as he believes that the final set he had given to Bokuto prevented the ace from hitting to his utmost capabilities. However, Bokuto assures Konoha that he was not at fault and was, in fact, praised by the captain for having been able to make the set at all. Bokuto instead says he was the one responsible for Fukurōdani's loss as he was not able to make the last hit count, something that he says he should have been able to do as the ace.

Although Konoha confesses that he always felt Bokuto could be a great pain at times, he is still happy that he got to have Bokuto as a teammate rather than an opponent and it was thanks to him that Konoha even got to play on center court. He encouraged Bokuto to continue moving forward with the promise of supporting and cheering for him without ceasing. True to his promise, Konoha and the others energetically celebrate many plays that Bokuto makes during the game.

One of his stand-out traits is that he is able to skillfully set the ball.
