"VS The 'Grand King', Take 2" (Japanese: VS “大王様”・2 "Bāsasu "Daiousama"・2) is the forty-ninth chapter of the Haikyū!! series, written and illustrated by Haruichi Furudate. It was published in the 12th issue of Weekly Shōnen Jump’s 2013 series.

Overview Edit

Aobajōsai and Karasuno begin their match, with both side surprising each other with unpredictable attacks right away. Oikawa shocks everyone with a spike and Aobajōsai seems to have an upperhand initially until Kageyama retaliates with a surprise dump.

Plot Edit

Aobajōsai and Karasuno warm up, both sides determined to win, remembering their previous practice match. In the bleachers, Shimada and Takinoue comment on Karasuno and its progress. Takinoue brings up Yamaguchi, but Shimada expresses his doubt on the success of the first year's float serve. On the court, Takeda watches Oikawa prepare the other members and notes that he's well-respected by his teammates.

Soon, the match begins. Oikawa approaches Kageyama and tells him that he'll look forward to beating him. Before Kageyama can retaliate, Hinata interrupts and yells that they won't lose, annoying the former.

The players get into their formation, but Oikawa surprises Karasuno when he suddenly spikes. Arrogantly, he warns Kageyama that he'll do it again and challenges him to stop it. Aobajōsai quickly gains a lead when Iwaizumi scores right afterwards, but Daichi's confident that it won't last for long. Karasuno prepares to attack back, with Hinata, Asahi, and Tanaka rushing around Kageyama. Unsure of Karasuno's next move, Aobajōsai gathers around the attackers but to the shock of everyone, Kageyama performs a dump instead. He looks at Oikawa and repeats the same challenges the third year gave him before.
